P. Craig Russell

Philip Craig Russell is an American comic book writer, artist, and illustrator, best known for his work dealing with mythic themes. His work has won multiple Harvey and Eisner Awards.

In addition to his original works, he has produced comic book adaptations of works by creators ranging from Mozart and Wagner to Gaiman

P.Craig Russell first broke into comics in 1972 working on occasional issues of Marvel Comics title "War of the Worlds". This brought him to the attention of Roy Thomas who was planning a comic adaptation of Moorcock 's Elric stories. The first to see print was in 1982 with "The Dreaming City " published as a graphic novel. In 1983 Thomas and Russell along with Michael T. Gilbert adapted 'Elric of Melibone' as a six part comic that was released as a single volume in 1986.

Russell's main interest is opera resulting in adaptations of Parsifal, Pelias and Mellisande , Salome and The Magic Flute.
