Dr. Ivar Giaever (born April 5, 1929) is a Norwegian-born US physicist (initially a mechanical engr.) who shared the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1973 with Leo Esaki and Brian David Josephson for work in solid-state physics. Giaever is a professor at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
