The legislative acts of the European Union (EU) can have different forms: regulations, directives, decisions, recommendations and opinions .
A European Union Directive is the collective decision made by the member states, acting through their national Government Ministers in the Council of the European Union and the Parliament. It is customary to group discussions around a specific topic in the Council, allowing the member states to send the Minister which is competent for this area to the meeting.
The European Commission has the task UK House of Commons: Report of the EU Legislative Process and scrutiny by national parliaments.
