Ecuavisa

Ecuavisa is a major television network from Ecuador. It proclaims to be Ecuador's number one network, although such proclamations are common of television channels worldwide. They are channel 2 on Ecuador's television dial.

History

Ecuavisa first began to transmit programming in 1967. Instead of being located in Quito, the network began to show its programs from Guayaquil, where it remains based.

With the advent of new technological advancements during the 1970s, Ecuavisa was able to gain the attention of a sizeable portion of Ecuador's television viewing public. Ecuavisa also benefitted from the advent of color television sets.

Many of Ecuador's celebrities participated in Ecuavisa's shows throughout the 1980s and 1990s, decades in which the network showed some of Ecuador's top television shows.

During the 2000s, Ecuavisa began to be seen in the United States, on the DirecTV system.

Programming

Because of its location, Ecuavisa dedicates a portion of its programming to showing ecology videos, most of which are concentrated on areas located in Ecuador.

Ecuavisa also shows many international shows. Its association with Mexico's Televisa allows Ecuavisa to show Mexican telenovelas, such as "Prisionera".

Sports programming consist of WWE and association football shows.

Ecuavisa has a nightly news show, and it also has children's shows. Some children shows transmitted on Ecuavisa include Pokemon from Japan and SpongeBob SquarePants from the United States.
