Yaracuy State


Estado Yaracuy is one of the 23 states (estados) of Venezuela. It is bordered by Falcón in the north, in the west by Lara, in the south by Portuguesa and Cojedes and in the east by Cojedes and Carabobo. Its geography is mountainous: the Andes range ends there, and the Coastal Range begins.

Yaracuy is divided into fourteen municipalities:

  • Aristides Bastidas (capital, San Pablo)
  • Bolívar (capital, Aroa)
  • Bruzual (capital, Chivacoa)
  • Cocorote (capital, Cocorote)
  • Independencia (capital, Independencia)
  • José Antonio Páez (capital, Sabana de Parra)
  • La Trinidad (capital, Boraure)
  • Manuel Monge (capital, Yumare)
  • Nirgua (capital, Nirgua)
  • Peña (capital, Yaritagua)
  • San Felipe (capital, San Felipe)
  • Sucre (capital, Guama)
  • Urachiche (capital, Urachiche)
  • Veroes (capital, Farriar).

The state capital is San Felipe . Other important towns are Aroa, Chivacoa, Cocorote, Marín, Nirgua, Sabana de Parra, Yaritagua, and Urachiche

Yaracuy State covers a total surface area of 7,100 sq.km. Population: 499,049 inhabitants (2001).
