Yamalia (Yamalo-Nenets, Ямало-Ненецкий автономны округ) is an autonomous district of Tyumen Oblast in the Russian Federation. It is the largest administrative division of Tyumen with an area 750,300 km&sup2 but is also the most sparsely populated with only around 550,000 inhabitants. The administrative center is Salekhard (pop. ~35,000), and the largest city by population is Noyabrsk (pop. ~ 100,000).

History

On December 10, 1930, Yamal (Nenets) National Okrug (Ямальский (Ненецкий) национальный округ) was formed based on Ural Oblast.
