Vassilis Tsitsanis

Vassilis Tsitsanis (b. January 18, 1915 - d. January 18, 1984) was a Greek singer and songwriter. He became one of the leading singers of "rebetiko", music which was then banned in Greece. He was born in the city of Trikala in 1915. His main songs include: "Synnefiasmeni Kyriaki" (Cloudy Sunday), "Eimaste alania" (We are tramps),"To Vapori apo tin Persia" (The Boat from Persia), "O Sakaflias", "Ta leromena ta aplita" and other titles of songs that made history and are being listening to today. Tsitsanis died in London, on his sixty- ninth birthday, on January 18, 1984 and he was mourned across Greece.
