The below is an abridged timeline of events established in the group of television shows and feature films set in the fictional Star Trek universe. More exhaustive timelines are available in both Star Trek#Star Trek reference works and in various fan websites.

Regular Timeline
- Quark, Nog, and Rom (3 Ferengi) cause the Roswell UFO incident.
- James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock help avert a world war.
- Khan Noonien Singh rises to power, assuming dictatorial control from South Asia to the Middle East.
- The Eugenics Wars end.
- Earth is devastated by World War III.
- As portrayed in Star Trek: First Contact, Zefram Cochrane makes the first human warp flight with the Phoenix. This attracts the Vulcans and they make first contact with humans.
2113
- As stated in Star Trek: First Contact, war, disease and famine are "gone" on Earth by around this time.
- Enterprise (NX-01) is launched under the command of Captain Jonathan Archer.
2151-?
- The events of Star Trek: Enterprise; these apparently take place in an alternate timeline created in 2063.
- The United Federation of Planets is founded. Founding members include Earth, Andoria and Vulcan.

- First contact with the Klingon Empire.

- James T. Kirk is born.
2242 -2245
- The pathfinder of the Constitution class, NCC-1700 is launched.
2245
- The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), a Constitution class vessel is launched under the command of Robert April.
2250 -2251
- The Starship Enterprise completes it first five-year mission and enters refit. Around this time, Christopher Pike assumes command of the ship and begins his own five-year mission as captain of the ship.
2254
- The events of "The Cage".
2256
- The Starship Enterprise completes its first five-year mission under Christopher Pike and enters refit. Within a year the ship and captain embark on a second five-year mission.
2261 -2264
- The Starship Enterprise completes its second five-year mission under Christopher Pike and enters refit. Within this time the ships population is substantially enlarged, rising from 200 to 430. Also during this time Christopher Pike is promoted to fleet captain and James T. Kirk is promoted to Captain of the Starship Enterprise and begins a five year mission of deep space exploraration.

- The events of "Where No Man Has Gone Before".
2267 -2269
- The events of the original Star Trek. The Enterprise's five-year mission becomes the most famous mission of space exploration in the Federation's history. The ship and its crew become legends.
- 2267 "Space Seed"
2269
- Captain Pike has a freak accident which leaves him deformed and totally paralyzed. The events in Star Trek: The Animated Series and "The Menagerie", immediately after which the Starship Enterprise returns from its shortened five-year mission under the command of Captain James T. Kirk and enters refit while James T. Kirk is promoted to Admiral at Starfleet Command. It is during the next eighteen months that the ship goes from its appearance in Star Trek to its appearance in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

- The events of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
2271 -2276
- The Starship Enterprise embarks on a second five-year mission under the command of Admiral James T. Kirk.
2277
- Around this time the Starship Enterprise is relegated to a secondary role as a training vessel in orbit of Earth.
- The events of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
- The events of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
- The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) is destroyed after James T. Kirk absconds with the vessel and is forced to destroy it.

- The events of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
- The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A) is launched. It is speculated that the new Enterprise was formerly the Starship Yorktown that encountered the Probe in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and renamed following the encounter.
- The events of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

- The events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
- The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A) is decommissioned.
- The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-B), an Excelsior class starship is launched, and the prologue to Star Trek: Generations occurs (in which Captain Kirk and passenger/bartender Guinan disappear after an accident and are presumed dead for decades).

- Jean-Luc Picard is born.
2311
- The Tomed Incident. Following the Treaty of Algeron the Romulan Star Empire goes into a period of isolationism until 2364. According to David R. George III in the novel Serpent Among the Ruins the Enterprise-B plays an important role in this event.
2332
- The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-C), an Ambassador class starship is launched.
2340
- Worf is born.
2343
- The Galaxy class development project is officially given the greenlight by Starfleet Command.
2344
- The Enterprise-C is destroyed defending a Klingon settlement under attack from Romulans.
2346
2357
- Worf is the first Klingon to enter the Starfleet Academy.
- USS Galaxy (NCC-70637), the lead ship of the Galaxy class is launched.
- USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), the third Galaxy class starship (Following the Galaxy and Yamato) is launched from Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in orbit of Mars, and becomes the Federation's new flagship.
2364-2370
- The events of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
- The events of "Encounter at Farpoint". Jean-Luc Picard assumes command of the Enterprise-D and begins an ongoing mission of deep space exploration. First encounter with the Q.
- Enterprise security chief Natasha Yar is killed during a mission.
2365
- First encounter with the Borg. (While a later retcon involving the childhood of the character Seven of Nine stated that the Federation explorers had encountered the Borg previously, this is generally ignored by fans.)
2366
- The Defiant class development project begins at Starfleet's Advanced Starship Design Bureau at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards and is later constructed at Antares Fleet Yards . Following the events of the Battle of Wolf 359, then Commander Benjamin Sisko takes command overseeing the project until it is shelved in 2368 following several systems failures. After first contact with the Dominion in 2370 Starfleet restarts the project.
2366 -2367
- The events of "The Best of Both Worlds". The Borg assimilate Jean-Luc Picard and nearly conquer Earth.
2369 -2375
- The events of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The Cardassians end their occupation of the planet Bajor; the Federation, in the process of assisting Bajor recover, discover a wormhole that leads to the opposite quadrant of the galaxy. The ex-Cardassian space station, now named Deep Space Nine, becomes a focal point of galactic trade and activity.
2371
- The events of Star Trek: Generations. The planet Viridian, its inhabitants, and the entire crew of the Enterprise-D are destroyed while preventing Soran from destroying an inhabited solar system. As a result, Picard is thrust into a temporal Nexus Of Joy (which allows him to do whatever he wants and wherever he wants, without reservation of time).
All events from this point in the regular timeline after 2371 are based on the assumption that the crew of the Enterprise-D were killed on Viridian (based on partial events in Star Trek: Generations).
2371
- Starship Voyager NCC-74656 is launched, and on its first mission goes missing in an unstable region of space known as the Badlands .
- Starship Defiant NX-74205 is launched and assigned to Deep Space Nine under the command of Captain Benjamin Sisko.
2371 -2377
- The events of Star Trek: Voyager.
2374
- The Starship Prometheus is hijacked by the Romulan Tal Shiar. Before it can enter the Romulan Neutral Zone though it is recovered by Starfleet with the help of two "Emergency Medical Holograms", one of which is from the Starship Voyager.
- The Federation learns that the Starship Voyager was not destroyed four years previously, but in fact became stranded in the Delta Quadrant and is making its way home on an estimated 70-year journey.
2375
- As portrayed in "What You Leave Behind ", the Federation is successful in its invasion of Cardassia and forces the Dominion to surrender after two years of war.
2377
- As portrayed in "Endgame", the Starship Voyager returns to Earth by using Borg hyperspace technology, significantly crippling the Borg in the process.
- Sphere-Builders working through the 22nd century Xindi-Reptilians as part of the Temporal Cold War.
- At some point in this century the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-J) will be launched and play an important part in the Temporal Cold War.
- An unknown party begins working through the 22nd century Suliban Cabal as part of the Temporal Cold War.
- Post-Federation humanity sends Daniels back to the 22nd century to fight the Temporal Cold War.
Alternate Paradoxal Timeline (caused by Jean-Luc Picard)
All events here make up this alternate timeline as Picard has, by 2371, entered the Nexus Of Joy, from which he cannot entirely return from.
- Simultaneously with the events of Star Trek: First Contact, the crew of the Enterprise-E travel through time from the 24th century to stop the Borg from assimilating humanity.
2371
- After entering the Nexus, Picard takes back with him Captain James Kirk, said to have been killed decades before, but also caught in the Nexus. As a result of Picard's actions of altering the fate of Viridian, Captain Kirk and Soran are killed and the entire crew of the Enterprise-D is saved.
- Worf is transferred to command division on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine under Captain Benjamin Sisko and is excommunicated by Gowron for refusing to support the Klingon attack on Cardassia.
- USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E) is launched. At the time of its launch, the Sovereign class vessel is the most advanced in the fleet.
2373
- The events of Star Trek: First Contact. The crew of the Enterprise-E travel through time to 2063, to stop the Borg from assimilating humanity by preventing first contact.
2375
- The events of Star Trek: Insurrection.
2379
- The events of Star Trek: Nemesis. The crew of the Enterprise-E become involved with a military coup within the Romulan Star Empire. Their intervention improves relations between the Romulans and the Federation; during the conflict Enterprise science officer Data is destroyed.
- Former first officer of the Enterprise-E William Riker is promoted to Captain and given command of the Starship Titan. The ship's first mission is to oversee the peace negotiations between the United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Star Empire following the events of Star Trek: Nemesis.
