The Fillmore

The Fillmore, also known as Fillmore Auditorium, is a legendary music venue in San Francisco, California. It is named for its location: 1805 Geary Blvd (at Fillmore). After a few short years there, because of a deteriorating neighborhood, Bill Graham moved from the original Fillmore at Geary and Fillmore Street to a hall at the corner of Market and South Van Ness Avenue, which was called Fillmore West. The last Fillmore shows in San Francisco took place at this location. Years later, the original Fillmore was reopened.

Fillmore Founder Rock Czar Bill Graham went from managing The San Francisco Mime Troupe in 1965 to the top promoter in Rock and Roll by 1968. He set the standard for well produced large scale rock concerts. All the big acts who came to San Francisco played at Graham's Fillmore or Winterland. The highest quality rock music in the world was coming from and to San Francisco and it would last for years. Graham was killed in 1991 in a helicopter crash. He was returning home after just seeing Huey Lewis and The News at the Concord Pavillion .

There are other Fillmore Auditoriums.
