Soviet Television

Television in the Soviet Union was controlled very tightly by the state, and programs were designed to reinforce typical Communist values such as proletarian unity and loyalty to the Communist Party. Though most of these shows were of a lower production value than their Western counterparts, some are worthy of mention: for example Stirlitz, a Soviet superspy in Nazi Germany, was a popular character and inspired many jokes (see Russian humour).
