Skylon (tower)

The Skylon was a futuristic-looking 88-metre high cigar-shaped tower built of aluminium and steel, which was a talking point of the Festival of Britain in 1951. It was designed by Sir Philip Powell . After the festival it was dismantled, cut into pieces, and sold as ashtrays.
