Salento is the south-eastern extremity of Italy, a sub-peninsula of the main Italian peninsula, sometimes described as the "heel" of the Italian "boot". It is within the administrative area of Apulia (Puglia).
The peninsula is also known as Terra di Lecce, and in ancient times was called variously Iapygia, Messapia, Calbria, and Salentina.
Salento is also a village of 2,017 inhabitants in the province of Salerno, Campania.
