Rick Mercer's Monday Report

Rick Mercer's Monday Report is a Canadian television comedy series. The series launched in 2004 and hosted by comedian Rick Mercer, the weekly half-hour show focuses on Canadian politics, combining news parody, sketch comedy and satirical editorials. The show's format is essentially a cross between The Daily Show and Mercer's prior series, This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Indeed, one 22 Minutes sketch said that the show was "like This Hour Has 22 Minutes, except without all the other actors and more stuff about the army."

Although the show has been a success for CBC, the press has given Mercer a hard time over his decision to do another news parody so soon after leaving This Hour Has 22 Minutes. (Former co-star Mary Walsh rolled her eyes during an interview when she was asked about her opinion on this show, adding fuel to the fire that Mercer left 22 Minutes due to a long feud with her)

On each program Mercer travels to a different part of Canada, often to communities that are currently in the news, collecting opinions, reactions, and quotes from people on the street. There he also does his "streeters", the rants about current issues that he popularized on 22 Minutes.

Also there is a segment where regular correspondent, Daryn Jones goes out and checks out cool things. There is also a Celebrity Tip, where a Canadian celebrity gives advice to Canadians, such as Shirley Douglas demonstating how to boost a car.

In the beginning part of each show, Canadian politics and comedy come together as Mercer does his monologue in front of a live audience in Toronto, Ontario in Canada.

Some memorable moments from the series include Pierre Berton demonstrating how to roll a joint; a visit to Censored page and carving pumpkins with Paul Martin; and a modernised video to the tune of the Expo 67 song "A Place to Live, A Place to Grow ".

Monday Report is produced by Island Edge Inc and the CBC. The show is in its second season and currently airs Monday nights at 8pm Eastern Time.
