Reinhard Bonnke

Reinhard Bonnke (born 1940 in Koenigsberg , Germany) is a charismatic Christian evangelist.

He studied at The Bible College of Wales in Swansea and pastored in Germany for seven years. He began his ministry in Africa, with which is is principally identified, preaching in Lesotho in 1967. He has subsequently held large evangelical meetings across the continent.

Bonnke claims that his crusades have resulted in the coversions of over 10 million people to Christianity between 1995 and 2000, with a further 34 million as of early 2005.

His meetings have also been marked by tragedy. In 1991, in Kano , Nigeria, a riot between Muslims and Christians resulting in a death toll of several hundreds.) As a result, Bonnke was banned from Nigeria for eight years. When he returned in 1999, a stampede at his meeting in the city of Benin resulted in fifteen deaths.
