Red Barber

Walter Lanier "Red" Barber (February 17, 1908 - October 22, 1992) was an American sports broadcaster. He was born in Columbus, Mississippi.

Barber worked as a baseball play-by-play announcer from 1934-1966. Along with Mel Allen, he was the winner of the first Ford C. Frick Award. He broadcast baseball's first night game on May 24, 1935 in Cincinnati, and also baseball's first televised game on August 29, 1939 in Brooklyn. He was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1995.
