Piccolo Junior Saga

[[King Piccolo Saga|]] [[Saiyan Saga|]]

The Piccolo Junior Saga is the last saga of the Dragon Ball original series.

It is the largest saga of the series, and covers basically two things: Goku's training with Kami the Guardian of Earth (Dragon Ball), and Goku's subsequent participation in the 23rd Tenka'ichi Budôkai (World Martial Arts Championship). It is by many people considered to have one of the most notable battles in all three series.

Prelude

Young Piccolo can't be seen, while Goku faints. Tenshinhan cries for help. Bulma, Yamcha and the others arrive at Chow's Castle. However, they can't help Goku, at the edge of death after the impressive battle with Young. However, it's Yajirobe who helps, by picking Goku up and by putting him in his car. Tenshinhan refuses any help, saying he needs to go back to Kame House. Already in the top of Korin Tower, Karin-sama gives Goku a Senzu bean, and he heals quickly. The three of them are sad because no one killed by Piccolo can now be ressurected. Goku asks Karin-sama if there is something that can bring the dragon and the balls back. Karin replies no, it's impossible. Goku then says the best thing to do is leave Korin Tower and train even more, for another evil might appear. When Goku is about to jump off the tower, Karin-sama replies there is someone that can help him. Goku is excited. "Who is it?", he asks: "Kami-sama", replies Karin. Goku realizes that's weird (Kami-sama means "God" in Japanese. Karin just said God can help ressurecting Shenlong). Goku asks how can he meet Kami-sama, since he is God and no one ever saw Him. Karin says He lives in Heaven, high above his tower. Yajirobe is impressed there's a material place even higher than the Korin Tower. Goku asks how can he get there. Yajirobe thinks of a rocket, while Goku thinks of his new Nimbus. Karin replies that only Goku's bo can take him to where Kami-sama lives. Goku remembers he left his bo at Chow's Castle. He calls Nimbus and goes there. He soon comes back, saying it wasn't there. So, he goes to Baba, the Fortuneteller. Goku says he's willing to battle her five fighters, but she replies she is also afraid of Piccolo, and wants her brother ressurected, so she tells Goku where the bo is for free. It was at Kame House. Goku didn't think of that. He went to Kame House and there was the bo. He picked it up and said he was going to "meet the Lord and ask Him to bring the Dragon back". No one seemed to understand what he said. Goku went back to Korin Tower and asked Karin-sama what to do with the bo. Karin-sama said he would fit the bo on a small hole, in the tower's roof, and order it to expand. Before, he gave Goku a little bell, so that Kami-sama would know Goku was sent by Karin-sama. The bo expanded, and went high into the sky, going above the clouds. Yajirobe comments that if he falls from there, it can be quite painful. Goku soon loses sight of Korin Tower. After an hour or so of the bo expanding, Goku sees a magnificent temple on a floating platform. The platform had a hole in its bottom just like the hole on the roof of the tower. The bo fitted again on the platform's hole, and stopped expanding. Goku climbed the stairs up to the surface of the platform, and saw a black man watering flowers, while colorful birds flew around him. Goku asked him if he was Kami. He said: "Wrong. I am Mister Popo, Kami's loyal servant. If you want to see Kami-sama, you have to pass me first". Goku said no problem, since he was now very strong, due to the Holy Water. Goku fought Popo with all of his strenght, but couldn't do anything. Popo replied he was an extraordinary fighter, because he had been a student of Kami-sama. In the meanwhile, below the Floating Platform, Karin-sama said to Yajirobe that Goku would be very impressed after seeing Kami-sama. Yajirobe wondered why. Popo made some more tests on Goku, and said the young Saiyan was weak. Goku was quite angry, but soon, a mysterious, deep voice ordered Mr. Popo to stop. Popo replied "I obey, Kami-sama". The door of the Temple opened, and from there came... PICCOLO! PICCOLO WASN'T DEAD AFTER ALL! Goku started to run and tried to hit Piccolo, but Piccolo blocked his attack and threw him back to Mr. Popo. Mr. Popo said that wasn't Piccolo: it was Kami. Goku was very embarrased. Kami then explained He and Piccolo where once just one being, a long time ago. Because Katatsu (original self) wanted to be the next Guardian of Earth , he asked the Kami-sama from a thousand years ago to be his succesor. (One of the candidates was also Garlic, father to Garlic Jr.). Kami said Katatsu couldn't, because he had too much evil inside him. So, Katatsu got rid of the evil, and the evil eventually became Piccolo, while the good half became what is now the current Kami-sama. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Ma jr. (Japanese for Demon junior) is born from his egg. He is just like his father, only smaller. He deeply says: "I hate peace". At Kami's Lookout, Kami said He couldn't ressurect Goku's friends, but he could ressurect the Dragon, and Goku would ask the Dragon to bring his friends back. Kami took Mr. Popo's dragon maquete , and turned it into the real Dragon. The stone Dragonballs, already possessed by Bulma and Yamcha at Kame House, turned into the Dragonballs again. The dragon was summoned at the beach, and Kuririn, Master Roshi and Chaozu where bought back to life. Kami then said Goku would train for three years on Kami's Lookout and enter the Tenkaichi Budokai again, where Ma jr. would be waiting for him. (Ma jr. is actually the Piccolo from DBZ).

Training

The first step of Goku's training is not to use useless moves. Popo proves he doesn't make those moves by jumping and running with Karin-sama's bell, and the bell wouldn't ring. Goku tried, but he couldn't do it. Another matter of Goku's training was not seeing the opponent with his five senses, but sensing their energy. To master this hard technique, Goku had to catch Popo with his eyes closed, and only locate him by sensing his power levels. Goku also went on a quest to Mt. Thunder, where he had to be as quick as the lightning, and he also used the Pendulum Room to go to the past, and meet Mutaito (Master Roshi's master). Mutaito taught Goku that his energy was mainly concentrated on a certain part of the body, and then he could use all of his energy in just one point of the body. He could move waterfalls with that. Goku did it once, but he wasn't shown doing it again until three years later. Goku moved huge rocks with his fingers, learned to sense power levels, and to concentrate energy on some part of the body, which is now the basis for DBZ combat. Tenshinhan, Kuririn, Yamcha, and Chaozu did their training for the next Tenkaichi Budokai at the Kame House and later left to head to Korin's Tower to see about becoming stronger.

Reunion and Preliminaries

Finally, three years passed, and an adult Goku went with his friends to the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. Ma jr. was waiting for him. He had also trained hard in those three years. He would reduce Goku to dust. (NOTE: The members of the Budokai killed by Tambourine where also brought back to life, as we are going to see in the Budokai description). Goku and co. entered the Preliminaries. Goku fought King Shapa (ressurected with the balls) for the second time, and defated him with one move. Everyone was impressed. Kuririn, Yamcha and Tenshinhan went to the quarters, but Chaozu didn't. Surprisingly, he had been defeated by Tao Pai Pai , who was supposed to be dead! (See Commander Red Saga). Tao was now a robot, and much stronger. Chaozu was sent to the nursery. Also, a nerd named Shen surprisingly passed the Preliminaries by defeating a 8 foot tall man. So, the eight finalists are:

  • Tao Pai Pai

Yes, Chichi is in the Tournament too. She wants to marry Goku, because he promised her he would marry her when both of them where 12 years old. Goku most probably forgot, and she went there.

Opening Round

The combats are:

  • Goku vs. Chi-Chi (Although he doesn't know who she is)

Tenshinhan VS. Tao Pai Pai

The Tournament starts with Tao Pai Pai vs. Tenshinhan. Tao Pai Pai and his brother, Master Shen, were Tenshin's masters in his childhood. Tenshin has bad memories about him. However, tough Tao doesn't know this, Tenshin is far stronger than him now. Tao breaks the tournament's rules by using a knife, to draw a scar on Tenshin's chest. Then, he uses a mighty cannon (Super DodonPa) to kill him. Master Roshi warns him to surrender, because the gun is too strong, but Tenshin survives the cannon's shot without a scratch! Then, he easily throws Tao out of the ring. Roshi is impressed.

Goku VS. Chi-Chi

Next, it's Goku vs. Chichi. Chichi is very angry because Goku forgot her promise. Chichi doesn't stop asking him if he remembers who she is, but he always answers no. Chichi is quite a good fighter, but Goku used his Kami-sama technique to push her out of the ring delicately. Chichi then mentions her name, and Goku remembers. He also confesses he didn't know what marriage is (he thought it was food, and his marriage with Chichi would bring lots of food to him, sure). They hug in the arena, and everybody in the audience claps. Kuririn is jealous. He's fighting next, actually, with Ma jr.. Goku wishes him good luck, but Kuririn is very afraid of the Demon Lord's son.

Kuririn VS. Piccolo

The combat starts with mainly physical moves. It's mainly tied, but Goku senses Ma jr. isn't using much energy, unlike Kuririn. Kuririn surprises Ma jr. with a Kamehameha wave, but that's nothing to Ma jr. and he then uses a little more energy and throws Kuririn out of the ring from the air. In the meanwhile, Roshi congratulated Kuririn from having defended well agaisn't Piccolo, but he is actually more concerned with Shen: Shen looks weak, but he has a lot of strenght inside him.

Yamcha VS. Shen

The last quarter is Yamcha vs. Shen. Yamcha is extremely confident. Next there are some funny scenes, when Shen kicks him hard between in his groin, and everyone in the audience laughs. Yamcha is surprised how that skinny man could be so strong. Shen then punches hard on Yamcha's face, and says he is stronger than he looks. He warns Yamcha not to understemate him. Yamcha is extremely angry. He uses everything he has, but Shen is far stronger. Yamcha, however, uses an improved version of the Wolf Fang Fist, surprises Shen, and even breaks his glasses. Shen admits he is actually quite strong, but Yamcha is defeated.

Semifinals

The half finals are:

Goku vs. Tenshinhan

Shen vs. Piccolo (Ma jr.)

Goku VS. Tenshinhan

It's Goku/Tenshinhan now. Exciting combat to see. Goku already knows Shen is Kami in disguise. He talks with Him before the combat. Shen reveals that He must kill himself in order to kill Ma jr., and that He is going to do that in his combat with him. Goku doesn't want this, but Shen doesn't give up. Finally, both combatants enter the ring. Tenshinhan wants to see the result of Kami-sama's training. Goku laughs. He uses the afterimage technique (creates an illusion of himself). Tenshinhan falls for the trick and Goku laughs again. The Referee says Goku and Tenshinhan are tied in strenght, but Roshi disagrees, saying that Goku's a bit stronger. Tenshinhan comments Goku is much stronger than three years ago (Tenshinhan Saga). Tenshinhan suddenly disapears. No one can track him, but Kuririn finally sees him in the air. Goku wasn't quick enough to block his attack. Goku is almost knocked out of the ring, though it doesn't happen. Tenshinhan says Goku is far slower and weaker than him. Goku weirdly agrees, and states it's becauses of his shirt, boots and wrist bands. After removing them, he says (and Tenshinhan proves) that the equipment weights 220 pounds. It's a part of Kami's trainment and an extension of Roshi's Turtle Shell. Goku gives a good proof of his incredible speed by taking off Tenshinhan's belt without him noticing. (His pants even fall off!) Tenshinhan is embarrased, but very impressed. Piccolo also comments on Goku's speed. Tenshinhan then uses his secret move: Me No 12 (Twelve Eyes). Ten splits in four entities, but this time, each one is real. Each Tenshinhan goes to each corner of the arena and attacks Goku with energy balls. Goku uses Taiyo-ken (Bite of the Sun) a technique used by Tenshin in the last Budokai, that temporarily blinds the opponent. Only the Referee doesn't get affected, because he has sunglasses. Without his eyes, Tenshinhan is helpless. Goku learned with Kami not to trust his organs and allways seen through his spirit. Blind, Tenshinhan is unable to counterattack. Goku attacks each Tenshinhan and throws each one of them out of the ring. He wins. Later, he comments that Tenshinhan made a big mistake when he split in four, because each Tenshinhan got a quarter of Ten's total strengh.

Shen VS. Piccolo

Next it's the 6th combat: Shen (Kami in disguise) versus Ma jr. (Piccolo). When the combat starts, Shen and Piccolo have a small dialogue in Namekian language. Shen, then, takes a small bottle out of His pocket and tries to use Mafuba. However, Piccolo reverses the Mafuba and traps Kami instead. Shen's body is left behind.

Final Round: Goku VS. Piccolo

Next is the 7th and final combat: the grand finale is Goku vs. Piccolo. Piccolo talks with Goku before the match: he swallows Kami's bottle and swears on Goku. Goku explains that Kami was disguised as Shen during the Tournament. The final then starts. Chichi is worried and doesn't want Goku to die before the marriage. Junior says he will succeed in his mission to kill Goku. They start an energy combat. Blue and red balls of energy are exchanged between the limits of the arena. Goku eventually falls and the Referee starts counting, but Piccolo tells him to stop, since Goku is faking. Goku stands up with his uniform ruined. Then, Goku disappears. No one can see him, except Piccolo. Goku reappears behind his back and blasts against him, burning part of his cape. Because it's weighing him down and being messy, Piccolo throws the cape away. Then, he shoots at Goku, but Goku escapes. Goku then yells at the crowd to leave the Papaia Stadium, because he is going to use Chou Kamehameha. Roshi yells at his student not to do that. Piccolo says he doesn't need to warn the crowd, since he will kill everyone present in the competition. Oolong hopes that's a joke. Also, if Goku kills Piccolo, he will kill Kami-sama. But he then remembers it's possible to ressurect Kami-sama with the Dragonballs. Piccolo says his father killed Shenlong, but Goku says Kami ressurected him. So, Goku completes his Chou Kamehameha. Piccolo survived, altough hurt. Goku is impressed. The Referee comments on the move. Piccolo then removes his turban. The Referee and everyone in the crowd notice that without the turban, "that Junior really lookes like Piccolo! Doesn't he?", Ma jr. then announces that he IS Piccolo and that he will kill every one on the planet. Everyone in the crowd except for Goku's friends and the Referee run away, afraid of Piccolo. Goku says Piccolo's a monster. He answers "thanks". Piccolo then grows to ten times his size. But Goku realizes it's a disavantage to be that big. He picks up Piccolo's leg and throws him to the ground. Piccolo grows even more. Yamcha tells Goku to run, but Goku uses Kamehameha to propell himself into Piccolo's mouth, grab the small bottle and release Kami-sama. Piccolo is mad. Because he lost power due to Kami's release, he goes back to his normal size. Then, Piccolo and Goku have a physical combat in the air. They move so quick nobody can see them, except when Piccolo nearly kicks Goku out of the ring. To avoid being defeated, Goku uses Kamehameha in his legs to push himself onto the air. The combat continues. Both of them eventually return to the ground, and when Piccolo is about to give Goku a fatal punch, Kami blocks it. Goku is a bit angry, saying that the Budokai rules don't allow other people to interview in the combat. Because Kami blocked Piccolo's punch, Goku allows Piccolo to punch him as he was going to do. Piccolo does that, and hurts Goku very much. But the battle goes on. Goku says he knows every technique Piccolo can use. The demon gets angry, and uses a controllable blast (that moves in a curved line, like Goku's special Kamehameha in his battle with Young) to track Goku. Goku stops by Piccolo's side, escapes between his legs, and the blast hits Piccolo. Piccolo is bleeding from his arm. He looks very debilitated. Feeling hotheaded, he regenerates his arm, and Oolong comments that he's worse than a lizard. Piccolo then powers up to incredible levels. Extremely worried, Goku yells everybody to leave the island. They ask why. Goku says there's no time for that. Just run away. To escape Piccolo's fury, Tenshinhan blasts a large, rectangular hole with his Kikou-ou technique and everybody gets inside. Kami is frozen stiff, so Launch drags him to the hole and kicks him in. Piccolo yells "Die!!" and attacks. The stadium is completely destroyed. Everyone thinks Goku is dead, but he gets up, and says he will defeat Piccolo soon. Goku prepares a Kamehameha. His friends duck again. The blast hits Piccolo and it's so strong it makes a hole in the (destroyed) arena. Piccolo is scattered to bits. His arms and legs are separated from the body, and his head is choped into pieces. The Referee thinks he's dead, but Kami being still alive proves the contrary. The Referee starts the count. At 9, Piccolo regenerates completely and spits a huge energy cannon that hits Goku in the chest. Blood gushes froms his body. A huge hole appears in his chest. Piccolo also breaks Goku's legs and his good arm. Then, he prepares the final attack. Kami orders Tenshin to kill him, because that way Piccolo will die. Goku tells him to stop, and says he will win. Nobody believes it, but Piccolo is still preparing his final and most powerful attack. The attack hits Goku completely. (NOTE: At this point, the entire of Papaia Island is reduced to ashes. The stadium is turned to dust, and the arena no longer exists, except for a square mound of dirt). But suddenly, Goku's pupils vanish, and his body is quiet. His friends start to cry, and Piccolo yells he's the winner and doesn't care if he broke the Budokai's rules by killing them. Then, he prepares to kill Goku's friends. Kami orders Tenshin to kill him, again, but suddenly, Goku flies! Piccolo doesn't notice, and since he has his back to Goku, Goku kicks him on his back and knocks him out of the arena. Goku is declared winner of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. Piccolo is nearly dead. Yajirobe then comes and gives a Senzu Bean to the injured Goku. Hoku recovers instantly. He asks for one more and gives it to Piccolo, as an act of mercy. Piccolo flies up and says next time, Goku is going to die. Piccolo laughs insanely, and disappears into the sky. Chaozu comes back from the ruins of the Infirmary and hugs his best friend Tenshinan.

Climax

Goku then takes Chichi with him on his Nimbus. They arrive at the Ox King's Castle, where Goku eats and eats and eats. The Ox King says that he like a man with a hearty appetite. He gives Chichi her wedding dress (which was also her mothers), and insists that the two have a big marriage. Just as the planning is underway, an earthquake happens, releasing magma and sending the castle up in flames again. Chichi's wedding dress could get burned. Goku and Chichi remember Master Roshi's magical fan, but also remember that he lost it. They ask go to Baba to tell them where the fan is, and Baba's ball shows an octagon. They take Baba (who has a cold) with them on their way to Octagon Country (as shown in Baba's ball). They meet Oolong's siblings, who misdirect Goku and lure Chichi and Baba to take a dip in a hot spring nearby. Baba jumps right in, but Chichi is reluctant. Oolong's siblings peep at her waiting for her to undress so they can search her clothes for valuables. By the time she starts to undress, their neighbours have joined in and the wall collapses under their weight. By that time, Goku has spotted the hot spring and notices that it has eight sides. Flying low, he sees what he thinks is the fan. He dives in and pulls out what is the drain plug for the lake. The receding waters expose a stone pillar that seems to contain instructions for making a fan. Baba mentions that she saw writing in a book in Master Roshi's house. They speed off on Goku's Flying Nimbus while Baba soaks in a small pool of hot water.

They find a special bird whose feathers can make new fans. However, the bird is retired and his son doesn't have feathers yet. Chichi collects a piece of the bird's eggshell. Goku and Chichi continue their trip and find the Octagon Country, plus a sacred mountain that makes a snowstorm when someone of the female sex goes to the mountain. An old woman named Octogona makes Chichi work hard on her house while Goku searches the fan. He finds Pilaf and his minions (that are still restabilizing after their betrayal by Young Piccolo). A storm comes, since Mai is on the mountain. Mai leaves, and the storm stops. Pilaf also reveals that he wants the fan to help him to rule the world, thinking it's the same as the Dragonballs. Goku beats them, and Chichi finds the fan in a forest, thinking it was a broom. (she needed the broom to clean Octogona's house.) As a reward, Octogona gives Chichi a bottle of her homemade honey. Goku and Chichi race towards the castle, but they can't erase the fire. They go look where the fire is coming from. After a travel through a perilous road full of monster illusions that Goku beats, they find the Holy Furnace and it's guardian, a giant priestess. The priestess and her assistant, who happens to be the alredy dead Grandpa Gohan, tells Goku and Chichi that a fire from the Holy Furnace cannot be erased without ruining the link between the two worlds (The worlds of Life and Death). She also says the problem is because of a hole in the bottom of the furnace. Goku takes the magical fan to shake the furnace's flame so that he doesn't gets burned, and glues the piece of eggshell with Octogona's honey on the hole. The fire stops, and Goku and Chichi marry at the Ox King's Castle.

End of Dragon Ball.
