Ouida

Ouida (January 7, 1839 - January 25, 1908) was the pen name of the English novelist Marie Louise de la Ramée.

De la Ramée was born in Bury St Edmunds, England, to an English father and a French mother. She derived her pen name from her own baby-talk nickname for "Louise". During her career, she wrote more than 40 novels. For many years she lived in London, but about 1874 she went to Italy, where she died.

Although successful, she did not manage her money well and died in poverty on January 25, 1908, in Viareggio , Italy.
