Near passerine is a term often given to those land birds most closely related to the true passerines in the order Passeriformes, which corresponds to some extent with the Anomalogonatae of Beddard. Whether all of these orders represent relatives of the Passeriformes or not is uncertain.

• kingfishers, todies, motmots, bee-eaters, Cuckoo Rollers, ground rollers, rollers hornbills, and Hoopoe.

Order Piciformes

• jacamars, puffbirds, barbets, honeyguides, toucans and woodpeckers
