My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance is an emo/screamo band with members from Bellville & Kearny, New Jersey, formed by frontman Gerard Way and ex-drummer Matt Pelissier in 2001.

Their first album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love was released on Eyeball Records in 2002, quickly making them an underground success. Their 2004 major label album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, has had much higher commercial success with the single "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)."

Gerard Way had previously been a down-and-out comic book artist when the September 11th occurred. Inspired by the event, Way wrote the song "Skylines and Turnstiles." The band hurriedly put together an album while still trying to figure out their "feel."

MCR consider their new album to be more "them" as opposed to the first album where they felt as if it was rushed to be put together. They have settled on their own style and plan on continuing along their current direction of rock-fueled lyrics with influences from metal and screamo, a style most closely related to friends The Used as well as AFI. Lead singer Gerard Way has recently given up his addiction to drugs and alcohol.

From February 18th to April 2nd 2005, My Chemical Romance tours with The Used, Senses Fail, Underoath across North America on the Taste of Chaos tour. The tour is similar to the Vans Warped Tour, however taking place indoors and during the winter. The band have also been announced to appear on all dates as one of the headlining bands for the Vans Warped Tour 2005. They are currently opening for Green Day on the last leg of their American Idiot tour.
