Miguel Juárez Celman

Miguel Juárez Celman (1844 - 1909) was President of Argentina from 12 October 1886 to 6 August 1890.

His period was marked by corruption and power abuse, establishing what is known as "Unicato", that is, one leader with one political party. These, combined with economic regression, led to the formation of the Civic Union , an opposition group that would later be split up in the National Civic Union and the Radical Civic Union, the latter being still important in Argentina's politics. In 1890, a revolution forced him to rennounce, and the vicepresident, Carlos Pellegrini, took power.
