Mestia is a village in the Western Georgian mountainous province of Svaneti, north of the Samegrelo province. Despite its small size, it is the principle village of sparsely-populated Svaneti. The village is dominated by stone defensive towers of a type seen throughout Svaneti and in nearby Chechnya.
