Maryland Institute College of Art

The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) is an art school in Baltimore, MD. It was founded in 1826, making it the oldest accredited art college in the United States. The school is located in the Bolton Hill neighborhood, about 1.5 miles (2 km) from downtown Baltimore. Its campus consists of two dozen buildings catering to different art departments. The campus is close to the University of Baltimore/Mount Royal stop on Baltimore's light rail line.

The newest addition to the campus is the recently completed Brown Center. Finished in 2004, the building is notable for its highly unusual design.

Degrees

As of 2004 there were 1,296 undergraduate and 185 graduate students persuing degrees at MICA. The current degrees offered are:ceramics, drawing, environmental design (interior design), experimental animation, fiber, general fine arts, general sculptural studies, graphic design, illustration, interactive media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and video. Graduate courses in Digital Arts, Painting, Sculpture, Fine Arts, Photography, Studio Art, Art Education, Art in Teaching and Graphic Design are also available.
