Loudon County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 39,086. Its county seat is Loudon6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 641 km² (247 mi²). 593 km² (229 mi²) of it is land and 48 km² (18 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 7.45% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 39,086 people, 15,944 households, and 11,798 families residing in the county. The population density is 66/km² (171/mi²). There are 17,277 housing units at an average density of 29/km² (76/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.90% White, 1.14% Black or African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.43% from other races, and 0.98% from two or more races. 2.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 15,944 households out of which 28.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.70% are married couples living together, 8.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.00% are non-families. 22.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.82.

In the county, the population is spread out with 21.90% under the age of 18, 6.70% from 18 to 24, 27.50% from 25 to 44, 27.70% from 45 to 64, and 16.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 95.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.10 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $40,401, and the median income for a family is $46,517. Males have a median income of $33,567 versus $23,164 for females. The per capita income for the county is $21,061. 10.00% of the population and 6.90% of families are below the poverty line.
