Kismaayo is a city in the Jubbada Hoose, Somalia. It is near the mouth of the Jubba River, and is famous for its old port.
This region was first settled by Oromo and Bantu tribes, and then the Bajuni tribe. Somali native clans are recent arrivals considering its history.
Today Kismaayo, with a population of 100,000 is the fifth largest city in Somalia after Mogadishu (2,590,000), Hargeisa (600,000), Baidoa (150,000) and Boosaaso (120,000). It is a strategic city, in the deep south of the country, close to Somali lands occupied by Kenya.
