The Kabyle (Kabyle leqbayel) are a Berber people living in Kabylie , a mountainous region of northeastern Algeria, although their name, which originally just means "tribes" (from Arabic), is occasionally used to refer to other Berber groups. Since the Berber Spring in 1980, Algerian Kabyle have been at the forefront of agitation for the official recognition of the Berber.
Kabyle taqbaylit, pronounced thaqvayleeth, spoken by the Kabyle people. There are over 3,000,000 speakers worldwide, the majority in Algeria, where there are 2,500,000 speakers.
