Jacques Saunière

Jacques Saunière is a fictional character of the highly popular novel The Da Vinci Code, written by American author Dan Brown. In the novel, Saunière is the curator of the Louvre and a beloved as well as revered figure.

The Da Vinci Code begins with Jacques Saunière's untimely murder by a member of the highly wealthy and influential Opus Dei. The French police are immediately notified and summon Harvard symbologist expert Robert Langdon to the crime scene. An assortment of clues are left by Saunière's corpse which lead to the arrival of Sophie Neveu, an expert in cryptology as well as the victim's grandaughter. With the help of Sophie, Langdon eventually unravels the series of mysteries left by Saunière, coming to the conclusion that Jacques Saunière was infact a member of the secret society known as the Priory of Sion.
