Indonesian Democratic Party - Struggle

The Indonesian Democratic Party - Struggle (PDI-P) is a political party in Indonesia. Its ideology is based on Pancasila.

It was formed in 1996 as a split from the Indonesian Democracy Party or PDI, who had attempted to oust Megawati Sukarnoputri. She founded the PDI-P instead, and took most of the membership and support of the PDI with her. She is also the current chairperson of PDI-P.

In the 2004 legislative election, PDI-P obtained 18.5% of the total vote, down from the 33.7% it obtained during the 1999 legislative election .[1].

In the 2004 presidential election, the party nominated Megawati as the presidential candidate and Hasyim Muzhadi as the vice presidential candidate.

The First PDI-P Congress was held in Semarang, Central Java on 2000.

Second PDI-P Congress

On 28 March 2005, the Second PDI-P Congress was held in Sanur , Bali, in the wake of some party members asking for reformation inside the party and call themselves "Reform PDI-P Movement". The congress ended on 31 March, two days faster than scheduled, with Megawati Soekarnoputri being chosen again as the Chairman of PDI-P 2005-2010 and other newly-chosen party members. Guruh Soekarnoputra , Megawati's younger brother, was chosen as the Leader in charge of Education and Culture.
