Harrison County is a county located in the state of Indiana. As of 2000, the population is 34,325. The county's county seat is Corydon, Indiana6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,261 km² (487 mi²). 1,257 km² (485 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.34% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 34,325 people, 12,917 households, and 9,713 families residing in the county. The population density is 27/km² (71/mi²). There are 13,699 housing units at an average density of 11/km² (28/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.38% White, 0.37% Black or African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. 0.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 12,917 households out of which 36.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.40% are married couples living together, 8.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.80% are non-families. 20.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.04.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.90% under the age of 18, 8.70% from 18 to 24, 30.20% from 25 to 44, 23.70% from 45 to 64, and 11.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 99.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.20 males.
