Hardin County is a county located in the state of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 94,174. Its county seat is Elizabethtown6. President Abraham Lincoln was born in Hardin County near Hodgenville, now modern-day LaRue County.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,631 km² (630 mi²). 1,626 km² (628 mi²) of it is land and 5 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.30% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 94,174 people, 34,497 households, and 25,355 families residing in the county. The population density is 58/km² (150/mi²). There are 37,673 housing units at an average density of 23/km² (60/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 81.99% White, 11.87% Black or African American, 0.42% Native American, 1.80% Asian, 0.22% Pacific Islander, 1.35% from other races, and 2.35% from two or more races. 3.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 34,497 households out of which 38.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.80% are married couples living together, 11.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.50% are non-families. 22.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.07.
In the county the population is spread out with 27.60% under the age of 18, 10.60% from 18 to 24, 31.50% from 25 to 44, 20.60% from 45 to 64, and 9.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 102.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.50 males.
