The Fairfax County Public Schools system (abbreviated FCPS) is a branch of the Fairfax County, Virginia county government, and administers public schools in the Northern Virginia localities of Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax. More students are enrolled in FCPS schools than any other public school system in Virginia.
History
The public school system in Fairfax County was created after the Civil War with the adoption by Virginia of a Reconstruction-era state constitution, which for the first time in Virginia guaranteed free public education.
