Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is the international governing body of the sport of association football (called simply football or soccer). It is based in Zürich, Switzerland.

FIFA was formed in Paris on May 21, 1904 and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2004. It announced in April 2004 that it is expecting to earn $144 million profit on $1.64 billion in revenue between 2003 and 2006. On May 20th 2004, FIFA commemorated their 100th year with a centennial match of Brazil vs. France.

  • AFC - (Asia)
  • CAF - (Africa)
  • CONMEBOL - (South America)
  • CONCACAF - (North America, Central America and the Caribbean)
  • OFC - (Oceania)

  9. FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup

FIFA also promotes the sport, regulates the transfer of players between teams, awards the FIFA World Player of the Year, and publishes the FIFA World Rankings every month.

The laws of football that govern the game, are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which consists of four representatives from FIFA. and one representative each from The Football Association, the Scottish Football Association, the Football Association of Wales, and the Irish Football Association.

FIFA and EA Sports also produce versions of the game on PC and various game consoles approximately every year, along with World Cup editions. (See FIFA series for a detailed description of each.) There is also a Street version of the game (see FIFA Street for more information).
