Exeter (CDP), New Hampshire

Exeter CDP is a census-designated place comprising the main settled portions of the town of Exeter, New Hampshire in Rockingham County. The details reported here are also included in the aggregate values reported for the entire town. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 9,759.

Geography

Exeter is located at 42°58'37" North, 70°57'8" West (42.977138, -70.95235).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 11.8 km² (4.5 mi²). 11.3 km² (4.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.74% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 9,759 people, 4,233 households, and 2,539 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 860.3/km² (2,230.4/mi²). There are 4,376 housing units at an average density of 385.7/km² (1,000.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.21% White, 0.46% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.92% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 0.98% from two or more races. 0.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,233 households out of which 29.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.1% are married couples living together, 9.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.0% are non-families. 33.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.25 and the average family size is 2.92.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 31.5% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 89.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.4 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $44,279, and the median income for a family is $53,174. Males have a median income of $41,760 versus $30,000 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $24,663. 7.1% of the population and 4.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.8% of those under the age of 18 and 5.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
