Eric Margolis

This is an article about Eric Margolis, the journalist. For information on Eric Margolis, the philosopher and cognitive scientist, see Holistic science.

Eric Margolis is an American-born journalist working in Canada. He is a contributing editor to the Toronto Sun, writing mainly on Middle East, South Asia, and Islamic affairs.

Margolis was born in New York City and holds degrees from Georgetown and New York Universities. He also appears frequently on Canadian television broadcasts. Marglois is affiliated with several organizations including International Institute of Strategic Studies in London and the Institute of Regional Studies based in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Though his domestic political persuasion is moderately conservative, Margolis is a opponent of neoconservatism and is considered by some a paleoconservative. During the Soviet-Afghan war he travelled with the Afghan mujahideen, and developed close relationships with them and their Pakistani military and intelligence handlers -- this is perhaps the reason why his articles frequently champion Islamic causes such as Palestine, Chechnya, and Kashmir.

Margolis was a regular guest on TVOntario's show Studio 2 and Diplomatic Immunity whose spot is now served by Patrick Martin .

Margolis is also owner of Canadian alternative medicine manufacturer, Jamieson Laboratories which exports worldwide. His mother, Nexhmie Zaimi , was one of the first American female foreign correspondents to cover the Middle East and was one of the few Western journalists in the 1950s to focus on the issue of Palestinian refugees.
