Emperor Kameyama of Japan

Emperor Kameyama (亀山天皇) (1249 - 1305) was the 90th Emperor of Japan. Kameyama took the throne in 1260 on the abdication of his brother, Go-Fukakusa, only to abdicate himself in 1274. The descendents of these emperors later formed two rival imperial houses which struggled for control of the throne during the early Muromachi period, Kameyama's the southern court and Go-Fukakusa's the northern.

During his reign, Kameyama helped establish the Buddhist temple Nanzen-ji in Kyoto.
