El Al Israel Airlines (אל על, Hebrew: Pun meaning To the sky) is the national airline of Israel. It is based at Ben Gurion International Airport, Tel Aviv and uses the IATA designator LY.

El Al was established in late 1948, just after the new country was founded. It currently employs a fleet of about 30 aircraft, all Boeings (737, 747, 757, 767, and 777 models).

El Al was completely owned by the Israeli government, but a move to privatize began on June 12, 2003 when its shares debuted on the Tel Aviv stock exchange.

The airline is renowned for the thorough security on its check-ins and planes and is thought to be the world's most secure airline.

El Al's security features that make it so secure are highly extensive. Most of it is that its due to the fact that the airline openly practices racial profiling, by breaking it into 3 categories: 1(Lowest Threat): Israelis. 2: Westerners (Americans, French...), 3: Arabs (Esp. Men). All members of customer service are trained to ask questions that could spot out suspicious activity, and throughly inspect any incoming bags. Once checked in, the bag is placed right onto the plane, if the passenger is not accounted for in the manifest, the crew removes the persons bag. Every jet is patrolled and watched by an armed air marshal (hired directly by El Al)
