Dupont Circle (Washington Metro)

Dupont Circle is a Washington Metro station in Washington, DC on the Red Line.

The station serves the northwest edge of downtown Washington, lying under Dupont Circle with two entrances: the north entrance, on Connecticut Avenue at Q Street Northwest, and the south entrance, on 19th Street. The Q Street entrance features a large round hole with terraced plants around the escalator, and a tube at the edge, giving riders on the escalator the impression that you are descending into what locals call "the bowl." The station had to be built very deep to get under the Connecticut Avenue tunnel which goes under the circle. Service began on January 17, 1977.
