Dosso Dossi

Dosso Dossi (c.1490 - 1542)[1], real name Giovanni di Niccolò de Luteri, was an Italian High Renaissance painter and founder of the Ferrara school . He held the position of principal court artist to dukes Alphonso I and Ercole II for 30 years. Dosso worked with his brother Battista Dossi frequently.

  1. The 2003 Columbia Encyclopedia gives his birthdate as c.1479. The J. Paul Getty Trust (which owns some of Dossi's works), along with Britannica and Encarta give the birthdate as c.1490.
