Dookie is an album by the rock band Green Day. Released on February 1, 1994 (see 1994 in music), Dookie became a sensation among the American mainstream, caused considerable controversy in the punk rock community, with many critics claiming the band had sold out. With singles like "When I Come Around", "Basket Case" and "Longview" all going to #1 on Billboards Modern Rock Tracks chart, Dookie was propelled to the #1 spot Billboard's Heatseekers and #1 on the Billboard 200 album charts. Dookie won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
"Longview", one of the songs on this album, is about boredom-induced masturbation. This set came out in winter 1994. The song itself is much like The Damned's song "New Rose" with the same drum lead ups and extremely fast guitars. It also features an interesting bass line that is one of group bassist Mike Dirnt's watermarks. This song was one of Green Day's first successes in the mainstream.
