Dispatch is the name of an independent band formed by three friends who met while attending Middlebury College in Vermont during the early 90's. The band was named One Fell Swoop for some time before switching to Dispatch. Dispatch recorded four studio and two live albums, with Brad Corrigan ("Braddigan") playing drums, Pete Heimbold on bass, and Chad Urmston on guitar. However, the band was famous for switching instruments during concerts and sharing the vocal duties. Dispatch played a wide range of music, from acoustic folk to funk-influenced reggae. They gained popularity around the turn of the millenium thanks to file-sharing services such as Napster. The band announced their break up in late 2003, but not before scheduling a free farewell concert on July 31st, 2004 at the Hatch Shell in Boston. Dubbed "The Last Dispatch", the concert drew an unexpected 110,000 fans, causing street closures and massive traffic and subway congestion. The Last Dispatch is the largest known concert in independent music history. The three members have gone on to solo projects, with Chad forming State Radio, Pete forming Pete Francis, and Brad forming Braddigan.
