David Carr (born July 21, 1979 in Bakersfield, California) is a US American football player. He is the quarterback for the Houston Texans. After his standout career at Fresno State, Carr was the first overall pick of the 2002 NFL Draft.
Early Years
By the time he was 6, David Carr was dreaming of being a quarterback for
Fresno State University . David's role model was Trent Dilfer(he would later win a Super Bowl ring). In 1993,David entered Stockdale High School,in Bakersfield, California,where,in 1995, he passed for 2050 yards and 21 touchdowns. He was recruited by UCLA,University of Washington,but ,instead went to Fresno State,which still admired.
College career
David Carr was one of the most successful athletes ever to play for Fresno State. He was the starting quarterback during the 2000 and 2001 seasons after redshirting in 1999. Under his leadership, the bulldogs went 7-5 and 11-3. In his senior season the team beat Colorado, Oregon State, and Wiscon, all members of BCS conferences and many speculated if the Bulldogs would qualify for a BCS bid, something without precedence for a so-called mid-major conference team.
During his college career Carr completed 587 of 934 passes for 7,849 yards. He threw 70 touchdowns versus 23 interceptions. Carr collected many honors and awards during his final college season, most notably the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award
Professional career
In 2002, the expansion Houston Texans chose David Carr with the first pick of the NFL draft. Carr started his first 23 games for the Texans before being hampered by an ankle injury. His first career game was quite memorable as the Texans defeated the Dallas Cowboys He connected for two touchdowns in that game. He played in 28 of 32 games, starting 27 in 2002 and 2003. Carr completed 685 out of 1205 pass attempts for 34 touchdowns,but 42 interceptions,and picked up 732 yards on 159 carries.
