Cardiogenic shock results from the inability of the heart to pump blood through the body. It is the most serious consequence of myocardial infarction, but can also result from other cardiac emergencies, such as cardiac tamponade.

Signs

• cold clammy skin
• pulmonary congestion
• distended neck veins and jugular venous pressure (JVP)
• alternations in conciousness
• decreasing blood pressure
