Bishojo

Bishōjo (美少女; literally, "beautiful young girl"), often spelled bishoujo, is the Japanese term used to refer to pretty girls.

Bishōjo are seen in almost all genres of anime and manga, ranging from shōjo to mecha.

A 'bishōjo series' is a series directed towards a male audience predominantly featuring female characters, usually of around high school or early college age. The main draws for this audience are typically the art and the attractive female characters, although the subgenre has a poor reputation for overall quality.

Some bishōjo series are harem anime. Some of these exclude men entirely, although they do not neccesarily have yuri content.

Although the plots of bishōjo series can be very similar to those of shōjo anime or manga, the two differ in that the latter is directed toward a female audience.
