Amalfi coast

Amalfi Coast or "Costiera Amalfitana" in Italian is a stretch of coastline on the Southern side of the Sorrentine Peninsula (Italy, Province of Salerno ) extending from Positano in the West to Vietri sul Mare in the East. The area is known for it's rugged terrain, scenic beauty, and pictoresque towns. The main cities include Positano and Amalfi. The Amalfi Coast belongs to the UNESCO list of the World Cultural Heritage. The area was made famous by the American writer John Steinbeck in his writings, notably in a book about the town of same name "Positano" (May 1953).
