Alfred Eisenstaedt

Alfred Eisenstaedt (December 6, 1898 - August 24, 1995) was a photographer.

He was born in Dirschau, West Prussia (now Tczew, Poland) and emigrated to the United States in 1935, where he remained until his death.

Eisenstaedt worked as a photographer for Life magazine from 1936 to 1972. He is most renown for his candid photographs , which he made using a 2 1/4 by 2 1/4 inch Rolleiflex twin-lens reflex camera.

Since 1999, the Alfred Eisenstaedt Awards for Magazine Photography http://www.life.com/Life/eisies/index.html have been administered by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
