AQi Fzono

AQi Fzono (born November 20, 1969 -) is a Japanese composer of new age and electronic music. In the early years of his career, Fzono became known as one of the pioneering few of acid house movement in Japan. Today, he is continuing to pioneer a new horizon with his progressive electronica album series called "Synthesizer Symphony ". Epic, ambient and dramatic - his music has created it's own genre. His suite-style voluminous works that contain fantastic and vast-scaled sounds has been categorized as "Space music ", ""Symphobient (Symphonic Ambient )", and "Progressive electronica".

In the past Fzono has released some electronica albums using an anonymous artist name Siamese Twin. Still today he intermittently releases experimental electronica albums as Siamese Twin.

Born in Kyoto, Japan, Fzono started learning piano when he was five years old and composing his own music at eight. At the age of ten, Fzono began playing synthesizer inspired by the soundtrack of cult Sci-fi movie "A Clockwork Orange" by Wendy Carlos. In 1985 he met Tatsumi Hijikata, the originator of Butoh (Japanese enigmatic avant-garde dance art). The inspiration Fzono received from the meeting led him to record his first electronic music piece. Fzono dedicated this piece to the soul of Hijikata who died in the following year in 1986.

In 1987, he traveled to the other parts of the world alone for ethnic music and ancient music research. During his stay in New York in 1987, he was involved in the hippie-influenced project called "Aurorae" that a percussionist Ashra was also part of. They held audio-visual live performance series called Multimedia Visionquest, featuring electronic and ethnic music, video drug and trance dance.

He also played keyboards and theremin in the Japanese underground Psychedelic trance project "Far East Acid House Quartet ", a pioneering acid band in Japan in the late 80s - mid 90s.

Fzono’s first official solo album Phosphorescent, a pioneering acid album influenced by the second summer of love and neo-hippie movement at that time, was released in 1988. With his second album Echoes (1990) that was subtitled as "Synthesizer Symphony No.1", a pioneering Symphobient album featuring some vintage instruments such as EMS and Moog modular synthesizer, Mellotron and theremin, he established his composition style. In the 1990s he released other "Symphobient " series albums "Ruins" (1993) and "Cathedral" (1995). In 1995 he revealed that Siamese Twin was himself, and re-released the early four albums under the name of AQi Fzono, in that same year he released his 5th solo album "Cosmology".

In 2001, Fzono and his artistic collaboration partner Ashra established their own record label Lavalamp Records in Washington, USA. In 2003, Fzono released a long-awaited new album entitled "Chronicle", classical-influenced suite featuring soprano, many choir and orchestra sounds, almost six years after his last album release.
