.38 Special (band)

The band .38 Special is a rock and roll group that was formed in 1975 in Jacksonville, Florida. They released some concept albums.

.38 Special is associated with the Southern rock genre. The band's lead singer, Donnie Van Zant, is the brother of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Ronnie Van Zant and Johnny Van Zant.

Among .38 Special's best-known songs are "Caught Up in You" (1982) and "If I'd Been the One" (1983), both of which hit #1 on Billboard magazine's album rock chart, and "Second Chance" (1989), a #1 hit on the adult contemporary chart. Their other well-known songs include "Hold On Loosely" (1981) and "Back Where You Belong" (1984).

Besides Donnie Van Zant, the other band members as of 2005 were guitarists Don Barnes and Danny Chauncey, bassist Larry Junstrom, keyboardist Bobby Capps, and drummer Gary Moffatt.
