World Technology Network

The World Technology Network (WTN) is a global virtual think tank whose members are focused on the business or science of bringing important emerging technologies into reality.

Membership is made up of over 700 scientists, entrepreneurs, financiers, journalists, academics, policymakers and people of similar standing from 50 different countries. Apart from the small number of founding members they are made up of World Technology Award Nominators (members for one year and the re-evaluated) and World Technology Award Finalists/Winners who automatically become WTN fellows - members for life.

They host the World Technology Summit . The 2004 summit was held on October 7th and 8th in San Francisco.

Along with The X Prize Foundation the WTN has announced the WTN X Prize. This was formally announced by Peter Diamandis of the X Prize Foundation and James P. Clark of the World Technology Network on October 7th at the WTN's 2004 World Technology Summit & Awards. A series of X-Prizes are planned inspired by the Ansari X-Prize but tackling other areas in science and technology. In the next 6 months the prizes will be chosen (the public can submit ideas at their website). They will be based upon pressing global needs that can be realistically solved in the next 5 - 10 years. Prizes are expected to be in the tens of millions of dollars.
