Timeline of the Phantasy Star series
This is a timeline of the Phantasy Star series of videogames. For dates in which the Japanese and US versions of the games conflict, the US date is used.
Events Prior to the 1st Century BW
- Several Hundred Million Years BW - In an unspecified solar system, a civilization of spirit-life forms divides, and an interplanetary war breaks out.
- c. BW 2,000,000 - The war is settled. As a result of the victorious side sealing the defeated side away, one fixed star and four planets are created, "Protectors of the Seal" are made on the four planets, and one kind of sentient life form is allocated to each.
- c. BW 300,000 - The entire race of victors is wiped out. Except on the fourth planet, Rykros, the beings of the other three planets, with the passing of each successive generation, begin to forget the mission of those made Protectors. Meanwhile, in their inter-dimensional prison, the sealed-away spirit-life forms transform into a wicked being, the accumulation of spirits of hatred and vengeance, and, at its core, a profound darkness is formed.
1st Century BW
- BW 100 - The feudal ages continue.
- BW 13 - The Supreme Ruler of Palma 's Baya Malay region, Waizz Landeel, raises an army with the goal of uniting all lands under one ruler.
1st Century AW
- AW 1 - Supreme King Waizz unites Palma .
- AW 86 - Space travel is discovered by the Palmans .
2nd Century AW
- AW 126 - The first manned Palma spacecraft lands on Motavia. Contact is made with the Motavians.
- AW 157 - A manned Palma spacecraft lands on Dezolis. Contact is made with the Dezolians.
- AW 183 - To solve Palma 's overpopulation, a plan for emigration to Motavia is initiated. Near the planet's only lake, Lake Perseus, construction of the experimental city Paseo is begun.
- AW 185 - Construction begins on the Skure spaceport on Dezolis.
3rd Century AW
- c. AW 200 - The "Faith of the Eclipse Torch," Algol's oldest religion, is founded on Dezolis.
- AW 255 - Odin is born on Palma .
- AW 264 - Emigration gets underway, Motavia is established as a province of Palma , and a Government House is set up in Paseo.
- AW 266 -
- Nero Landale is born on Palma .
- Noah is born on Palma .
- AW 270 - Alis Landale is born.
- AW 271 - The current king of Palma , Alex Landale, suddenly dies. In place of the less-than-one-year-old successor, Princess Alis, the next-in-line head priest and prime minister Reipard La Shiec is entrusted with political power. However, a lady of the court, with the misconception that King Alex's death was the result of a plot by La Shiec, hides Alis with a friend.
- AW 272 - La Shiec is installed as the provisional king. Alisa lives with Motavia's governor.
- AW 273 - Motavia's governor sends Princess Alis to the home of the subordinate of a trusted retainer, where she will be raised as a common citizen. In this house, there is a boy called Nero. Alis takes to him, and they are raised as brother and sister.
- AW 281 - Myau is born on Palma.
- AW 282 - Princess Alis's foster parents die in an accident.
- AW 284 -
- La Shiec is gifted a suit of armor (from the Earthmen) that corrupts him.
- The Espers are exiled from Palma.
- AW 285 -
- La Shiec contacts the Profound Darkness, summons, Dark Force, and becomes its loyal servant.
- The Air Castle is constructed for La Shiec .
- Outrageous taxes cause businesses and entire towns on Palma to effectively shut down.
- AW 286 -
- This is the date of the events of Phantasy Star.
- King La Shiec closes the spaceports to all citizens who do not have official travel permits.
- Nero, investigating the reason behind La Shiec's transformation, is caught and killed at and by the hands of the special police. Alisa carries out his final wishes; she gains the help of Myau, Tyrone, and Lutz, and overthrows La Shiec and Dark Force. That year, when the governor of Motavia is told the news, Queen Alisa Landeel I is placed on the throne.
- The Naula Bakery is constructed on the fourth basement floor of the Naula dungeon.
- AW 287 - The Great War.
- AW 288 -
- Lutz, continuing to research Dark Force, finds that the gate that La Shiec opened cannot be perfectly resealed, and realizes that the resultant fluctuations will therefore once again reach their peak after 1,000 years.
- The Esper Mansion is constructed on Dezolis.
- Lutz creates the nine items of Nei before entering an artificial sleep.

- AW 822 - The Earthmen first arrive in Algol aboard the space fortress Noah.
- AW 843 -
- The "Conjuction" (an event in which Palma and Motavia exchange orbits) occurs, annihilating several cities on each planet.
- Laconia is discovered on Dezolis, leading to a rush of Palmans to the planet.
- AW 844 - In what appears to be an accident, the Earthmen murder the royal family of Palma by destroying their spaceship. The Palman monarchy is abolished, with the Earthmen establishing a democratic republic in Algol.
- AW 845 -
- Mother Brain, secretly controlled by the Earthmen at the heart of Noah, begins construction of its centrally controlled network on Palma , and reconstruction advances at an accelerated pace.
- Lutz awakens. He goes into hiding with his followers on Dezolis.
- AW 852 - The Atmosphere Control Center is constructed on Motavia, changing the planet from a barren desert into a lush, agricultural haven.
- AW 868 - The reconstruction of Palma is completed. Control over the public welfare is given to Mother Brain. Because of this, an underground resistance movement is also born.

- AW 1251 - Rudolf Steiner is born on Motavia on July 1st.
- AW 1262 - Anna Zirski is born on Motavia.
- AW 1263 - Anna Zirski is born on Motavia on April 26th.
- AW 1265 -
- Shir Gold is born in Paseo on Motavia on April 1st.
- Rolf Landale is born in Paseo on Motavia on September 17th.
- Josh "Kain" is born in on Motavia on December 9th.
- The twins Orakio and Rukalir are born on Motavia.
- AW 1267 - Hugh Thompson is born on Motavia on June 14th.
- AW 1269 - Rudolf Steiner enters the Paseo Military Academy on Motavia.
- AW 1273 - Rudolf Steiner graduates from Paseo Military Academy on Motavia.
- AW 1276 - The anti-Mother Brain resistance group is sent off on the Outworlder, a spaceship used for exploration outside the Algol system. Mother Brain destroys the ship, making it look like an accident. Under this pretense, Mother Brain issues a command forbidding the use of spaceships. A young boy of Landeel blood, Rolf, had boarded that spaceship, but he is saved by Lutz's power.
- AW 1281 - A poisonous gas that causes genetic mutations is discovered in a Dezolian mine shaft, prompting the Palman population to evacuate the planet.
- AW 1282 - There is an "accident" at the Bio-systems Lab on Motavia. Massive quantities of Biomonsters are bred. This is part of the rebirth of the Profound Darkness at the hands of the Earthmen.
- AW 1284 -
- One given date for the events of Phantasy Star II. For more information, see the article on Phantasy Star II. (Note: In this article, the year AW 1286 is assumed to be the correct date for the events of Phantasy Star II.)
- Neifirst , the first Biomonster, is created in the Bio-systems Lab on Motavia.
- Rolf Landale begins working for the Commander of Motavia as a government agent.
- AW 1285 -
- Nei separates from Neifirst and escapes from her "sister."
- Rolf Landale rescues Nei in Paseo. She begins to live at his house.
- AW 1286 -
- One given date for the events of Phantasy Star II. For more information, see the article on Phantasy Star II.
- The Wren-type android who will travel with Chaz Ashley in Phantasy Star IV is created.
- The new Dark Force enters our dimension.
- Palma is instantly destroyed when the artificial satellite Gaira crashes into the planet, but many Palmans escape on a fleet of 400 cloaked worldships, which Dark Force infiltrates after being defeated on Noah. One of the ships, the Gaiden, suffers extreme damage. See AW 2284 for more information.
- Mother Brain and the Earthmen are destroyed on Noah.
- The artificial satellite Kuran ceases to function.
- AW 1287 - A group of rebels who fought against Mother Brain restores power and function to Kuran, as well as the Atmosphere Control Center and the Crust Control System on Motavia.
- AW 1288 -
- As a result of Palma and Mother Brain being destroyed, 90% of Algol's population has died in the past two years.
- Algol officially enters into the period known as "The Great Collapse."
- AW 1291 - Dark Force has destroyed all but two of the 400 Palman space ships, the Alisa III and the Neo Palm. It comes aboard the Alisa III and instigates the "Devastation War" between a faction led by Orakio and one led by Laya.
- AW 1293 -
- Orakio and Laya reconcile and seal off the roads between the worlds of the Alisa III.
- Rukalir is possessed by Dark Force, who gives him unnatural longevity.
- Orakio and Laya trap Dark Force in a stronghold in Landen, then die.

- c. AW 1900 - An accident occurs and the artificial intelligence in the Nurvus power plant fails.
- AW 1960 - Demi is created by Wren and begins working in Nervus.
- AW 1963 - The blacksmith Jou'un forges the sword Sange.*
- AW 1975 - The blacksmith Dousetsu forges the sword Orotiagito.*
- AW 1977 - The blacksmith Tengai forges the sword Kamui.*
21st Century AW
- AW 2018 - The blacksmith Kikoku forges the sword Yasha.*
22nd Century AW
- AW 2199 - Raja is born on Dezolis.
23rd Century AW
- AW 2260 - Hahn Mahlay is born in Krup on Motavia.
- AW 2265 - Gryz is born in Molcum on Motavia.
- AW 2266 - Kyra Tierney is born in the Esper Mansion on Dezolis.
- AW 2268 - Chaz Ashley is born on Motavia.
- AW 2273 - Prince Lyle of Shusoran is born in Aquatica on the Alisa III.
- AW 2275 -
- Prince Rhys of Landen is born in Landen on the Alisa III.
- Princess Maia of Cille is born in Aquatica on the Alisa III.
- AW 2277 - Princess Lena of Satera is born in Landen on the Alisa III.
- AW 2283 - Rika is created on Motavia, based on the genetic pattern of Nei.
- AW 2284 -
- This is the date of the events of Phantasy Star IV.
- Zio is possessed by Dark Force in Zema on Motavia.
- The worldship Gaiden crashes on Motavia after orbiting the planet for 998 years. See AW 1286 for more information.
- La Shiec is resurrected.
- Rykros is rediscovered.
- The Profound Darkness is destroyed, causing a time warp.
- AW 2292 - Princess Maia of Cille washes up on a shore in Landen on the Alisa III, suffering from total amnesia. Prince Rhys of Landen falls in love with her, and they plan to marry.
- AW 2293 - This is the date of the events of Phantasy Star III (First Generation).
- AW 2295 - A son, Nial, is born to King Rhys and Queen Lena of Landen.
24th Century AW
- AW 2313 -
- This is the date of the events of Phantasy Star III (Second Generation).
- Nial and Alair have a son, Aron.
- Lune has a daughter, Kara.
- AW 2333 -
- This is the date of the events of Phantasy Star III (Third Generation).
- Orakio's twin brother, Rulakir is killed after his thousand-year reign as ruler of Lashute.
- Dark Force is defeated.
Note: The date given for these events in Phantasy Star Online are listed with the designation "AUW." Because of the lack of standard naming conventions used by games in the series, the author of this article has interpreted AUW to have the same meaning as AW.
