The National Radio Theater of Chicago

An anthology series that began as a local program in 1973, but always had national aspirations (and was listed in writers' market-guides in the 1970s). Episodes consisted of original radio plays, adaptations of fiction and stage plays, and radio plays from Europs and the Far East. Its period of greatest national exposure was from 1981-1983, though it had already received a Peabody Award by 1978 and another in 1981. It was produced by a small independent production company of the same name, founded in 1972 and disbanded in 1987. Founder Yuri Rasovsky later established The Hollywood Theater of the Ear.
