The Exploited

The Exploited are a seminal punk rock group, from the so-called "second wave" of U.K. punk. They formed early 1980 in Edinburgh and after signing to Secret Records March1981 they released the classic album 'Punk's Not Dead'. Despite seemingly countless line-up changes over the years, the band has managed to maintain, develop, and evolve a highly influential style of punk. Frontman Wattie Buchan has led the many members through over 20 years of constant gigging and recording, creating a worldwide following in the process.

A steady increase in thrashiness can be tracked through the band's history. Each successive album has had a bit more edge than the last.

Despite their successes, the band has been criticized for being formulaic, and basically playing into the stereotypes of punk. They are often dismissed by followers of the later punk movements that emphasized the message behind the music. Their inarticulate political stance has been criticized as fascist or racist, due to songs like "Hitler's On The Charts Again" and their substantial National Front fan base in the early 1980s. However, the Exploited have never elucidated a clearly fascist political position a la Skrewdriver.
